Appendix 2 Flange
Appendix 2 Flanges, or Custom Flanges, follow the design procedure pulled from Section VIII, Division 1 Appendix 2. The method provided in Appendix 2 is augmented by Taylor Forge Bulletin 502 for full face gaskets, and also the common industry used effective pressure method for external loads on a flange. This method is more flexible than just picking a rated flange; but the design is also more time consuming.
Consider using this procedure for your flange instead of picking a rated flange in the following cases:
- Dimensions fall outside the scope of B16.5/B16.47
- A corrosion allowance is specified
- The bolting falls outside the scope of B16.5/B16.47 or a tensile check on the bolting is required
- External loads on the flange are required
- The gasket falls outside the scope of B16.5/B16.47
- A blind flange is being designed and it requires a nozzle
- The flange is part of a spherically dished cover
