AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel Welding Code)
AWS D1.1’s implementation into ProWrite allows users the ability to enter, store, and access their Structural Steel Welding documents as well as their welders from within ProWrite Welding Software.
AWS D1.1 is the structural Steel welding code developed by The American Welding Society for fabricating and erecting welded steel structures.
This code defines the requirements for fabricating and erecting welded steel structures. This code was developed for steel structures that utilize carbon or low alloy steels that are 1/8 in or thicker with a minimum specific yield strength of 100 ksi. The code may be used outside of the intended purpose, but the engineer must evaluate each suitably.
AWS D1.1 covers the design of welded connections, pre-qualifications of WPSs, general qualifications, fabrication, inspection, stud welding, strengthening/repair of existing structures, and tubular structures.
When this code is stipulated in the contract documents, conformance with all provisions of the code shall be required, except those provisions that the Engineer or contract documents specifically modifies or specifically exempts. Alternate requirements from those in this code shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval. These requirements shall be based on experience, experimental evidence, or engineering analyses, and shall consider materials, loads, and environment.
These document are geared toward the development of welding procedures and welding operator performance qualification specifically in the steel arena.
“This code is not intended for specialized fabrication such as pressure vessels or pressure piping.”
