Expiration Calculation
ProWrite can calculate expiration via 9 different methods with 2 multipliers for term (one for welder and one for WPQ). The default method is set via Tools → Settings. These methods can all be seen from the Quick Reports.
The term for the expiration length added to a welder in ProWrite is "Expiration Time added to date in Welders Log (months)" (Continuity Term is our shorthand term) and the term for the expiration length added to a WPQ is "Months before WPQ requalification is required" (Document Term is our shorthand term). Both can be set on the Welder tab or Tools → Settings.
The 9 methods are:
Process Focused
Exp. Date (P)
Expiration Date by Process
This obtains the last date for any continuity entry associated with a given welder for a given Process (for example GTAW) and adds the Continuity Term to calculate expiration.
Example: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW with a date of 1/1/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/2/17 for GTAW. The Continuity Term is 6 months. She would expire for GTAW on 7/2/17.
Exp. Date (P, WPQ)
Expiration Date by Process with Document Expiration
This obtains the last date for any WPQ associated with a given welder for a given Process (for example GTAW) and adds the Document Term to calculate expiration.
Example: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW with a date of 1/1/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/2/17 for GTAW. The Continuity Term is 6 months and the Document Term is 12 months. She would expire for GTAW on 1/1/18.
Exp. Date (P-F)
Expiration Date by Process with Document Expiration Final variation
This uses the lesser of the above 2 dates.
Example: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW with a date of 1/1/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/2/17 for GTAW. The Continuity Term is 6 months and the Document Term is 12 months. She would expire for GTAW on 7/2/17.
Method Focused
Exp. Date (P/M)
Expiration Date by Process/Method
This obtains the last date for any continuity entry associated with a given welder for a given Process/Method (for example GTAW/Manual) and adds the Continuity Term to calculate expiration.
Example 1: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW/Manual with a date of 1/1/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/2/17 for GTAW/Manual. The Continuity Term is 6 months. She would expire on 7/2/17.
Example 2: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW/Manual with a date of 1/1/17 & another WPQ for GTAW/Semi-Automatic with a date of 1/2/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/3/17 for GTAW/Manual & another Continuity entry on 1/4/17 for GTAW/Semi-Automatic. The Continuity Term is 6 months. She would expire for GTAW/Manual on 7/3/17 & for GTAW/Semi-Automatic on 7/4/17.
Exp. Date (P/M, WPQ)
Expiration Date by Process/Method with Document Expiration
This obtains the last date for any WPQ associated with a given welder for a given Process/Method (for example GTAW/Manual) and adds the Document Term to calculate expiration.
Example: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW/Manual with a date of 1/1/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/2/17 for GTAW/Manual. The Continuity Term is 6 months and the Document Term is 12 months. She would expire for GTAW/Manual on 1/1/18.
Exp. Date (P/M-F)
Expiration Date by Process/Method with Document Expiration Final variation
This uses the lesser of the above 2 dates.
Example: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW/Manual with a date of 1/1/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/2/17 for GTAW/Manual. The Continuity Term is 6 months and the Document Term is 12 months. She would expire for GTAW on 7/2/17.
Role (Welder vs. Weld Operator) Focused
Exp. Date (P/R)
Expiration Date by Process/Role (Welder vs. Weld Operator)*
This obtains the last date for any continuity entry associated with a given welder for a given Process and Role (for example GTAW/Manual & GTAW/Semi-Automatic would be analyzed together as "Welder" and GTAW/Machine & GTAW/Automatic would be analyzed together as "Weld Operator") and adds the Continuity Term to calculate expiration.
Example: A Welder has a WPQ for GTAW/Manual with a date of 1/1/17 & another WPQ for GTAW/Semi-Automatic with a date of 1/2/17. She also has a Continuity entry on 1/3/17 for GTAW/Manual & another Continuity entry on 1/4/17 for GTAW/Semi-Automatic. The Continuity Term is 6 months. She would expire for GTAW/Manual & for GTAW/Semi-Automatic on 7/4/17. This can be thought of as GTAW/Welder vs. GTAW/Weld Operator.
Exp. Date (P/R, WPQ)
Expiration Date by Process/Role (Welder vs. Weld Operator) with Document Expiration
This obtains the last date for any WPQ associated with a given welder for a given Process and Role (for example GTAW/Manual & GTAW/Semi-Automatic would be analyzed together as "Welder" and GTAW/Machine & GTAW/Automatic would be analyzed together as "Weld Operator") and adds the Document Term to calculate expiration.
The Continuity Term is 6 months and the Document term is 12 months. She would expire for GTAW/Manual & for GTAW/Semi-Automatic on 1/2/18.
Exp. Date (P/R-F)
Expiration Date by Process/Role (Welder vs. Weld Operator) with Document Expiration Final variation
This uses the lesser of the above 2 dates.
The Continuity Term is 6 months and the Document term is 12 months. She would expire for GTAW/Manual & for GTAW/Semi-Automatic on 7/4/17.
*This is the default ProWrite ships with and the most commonly used expiration calculation method.
