AWS C3.x (AWS General Brazing)
AWS C3.x’s implementation into ProWrite allows users the ability to enter, store, and access their Brazed Joints documents as well as their brazers from within ProWrite Welding Software.
AWS C3.x is a code developed to evaluate the general brazing techniques, composed by The American Welding Society.
The purpose of C3.2 is to describe the test methods used to obtain reliable data on the strength of metallic to metallic, metallic to non-metallic, and non-metallic to non-metallic brazed joints. Overall testing methods are described to provided proper and consistent brazed joints. Documentation of materials, brazing parameters, and test conditions are required to compare the joint strength with others standard methods. Testing methods collect data on short-time testing of single-lap joints in shear, butt-tension, stress rupture, creep-strength, four-point-bending, and ceramic-tensile-button specimens. The code includes information on testing parameters/techniques and methods for data analysis.
C3.4 is a specification of Torch Brazing of several metals including: steels, stainless steels, copper, copper alloys, and heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys, as well as other materials that can be adequately torch brazed. The exception is details on aluminium brazing which is covered in C3.7. The code standardizes torch brazing methods and joint quality requirements for all applications of brazed joints. The code details methods of classifying torch brazed joint based on loading, and subsequently explains consequences of failure and quality assurance criteria for the acceptability in each class.
C3.5 defines the minimum fabrication, and quality requirements for the induction brazing of materials such as steels, copper, copper alloys, and heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys, as well as other materials that can be adequately induction brazed. The exception is details on aluminium brazing which is covered in C3.7. The code establishes requirements for induction brazing methods and the produced products.
C3.6 standardizes the furnace brazing process requirements and joint quality requirements for all applications requiring brazed joints of assured quality. The specification outlines the fabrication and quality requirements for materials such as steels, copper, copper alloys, and heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys, as well as other materials that can be adequately furnace brazed. The exception is details on aluminium brazing which is covered in C3.7.
C3.7 is a code focused on the fabrication, equipment, material, procedure, and inspection for aluminum brazing. The specification is designed to standardize aluminum brazing requirements and control brazed quality for all applications.
C3.9 is a specification of resistance brazing of several metals including: steels, stainless steels, copper, copper alloys, and heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys, as well as other materials that can be adequately resistance brazed. The code outlines acceptable resistance brazing equipment, materials and procedures, as well as required inspection for each joint class.
