Forms - File Properties

The properties dialog displays general information about a document. It also allows you to view and change the document summary information (e.g., title, author, company) and determine the settings for the .pdf file. A password for the file can be created on the PDF tab. You may also set the compression level, font encoding, and image quality. These settings determine how your content is handled during the PDF conversion process.

Compression

Compression level options are None, Fastest, Normal, and Maximum. The maximum level of compression will create the smallest file, but compression and extraction will take longer than with the other options. Normal compression balances the file size with the time required, and fastest creates the largest compressed file while taking the least time.

Font Encoding

Font encoding determines the character mapping used when creating the PDF. If the document contains only True Type fonts, select Windows ANSI. If the document contains Type 1 fonts, select Standard. If the type of fonts is unknown, select Standard. If characters are not displaying correctly, try changing the font encoding settings.

Image Quality

The image quality options are Highest (32 bit), High (24 bit), Medium (16 bit), and Low (8 bit). Higher quality images will render smoother pictures but will cause the file size to be larger. If file size is a concern, choose a lower quality option. Conversely, if the quality of the images is paramount, high or highest should be selected.
