Design Information

Juncture Description: The label given for the analysis. It will appear in the analysis pane, the report dialog, the summary pane, and at the top of the analysis report. This will default to the analysis type and analysis number. For example, the third WRC-107 for the vessel will start with a description of WRC-107 3.

Juncture Location: Indicate the end of the cone on which the analysis will run. This field is for informational purposes only.

Ring Temperature: The maximum mean metal design temperature for the ring for the Internal Pressure case.

Ring Temperature (Ext P): The maximum mean metal design temperature for the ring for the External Pressure case.

Cone Information

Longitudinal Efficiency (Int P): The joint efficiency of the long seam of the cone at the junction under consideration for internal pressure calculations.  This defaults to the longitudinal seam efficiency of the selected cone.

Longitudinal Efficiency (Ext P): The joint efficiency of the long seam of the cone at the junction under consideration for external pressure calculations.   This defaults to the longitudinal seam efficiency of the selected cone.

Shell Information

Longitudinal Efficiency (Int P): The joint efficiency of the long seam of the cylinder at the junction under consideration for internal pressure calculations.  This defaults to the longitudinal seam efficiency of the selected cylinder for small end junctions and to 100% for large end junctions as provided for in Appendix 1-5.

Longitudinal Efficiency (Ext P): The joint efficiency of the long seam of the cylinder at the junction under consideration for external pressure calculations.  This defaults to the longitudinal seam efficiency of the selected cylinder for large end junctions and to 100% for small end junctions as provided for in Appendix 1-8.

Cylinder Length: The actual length of the cylinder at the junction.  This will default to the shell's length from the Internal Pressure tab on the shell.

Section Length: The unstiffened length of the vessel that the juncture falls in. This will default to the shell's unstiffened length (dimension L) from the External Pressure tab of the Shell.

Consider Cylinder: The options are "Yes", "No" or "Based on Code".  This will default to "Based on Code".  If the cylinder at the junction is considered in the calculation, then the cylinder is allowed to reinforce the junction; likewise a ring can be considered for reinforcement as well.  If the cylinder is not considered in the calculation, only the cone is allowed to reinforce the junction; a ring, even if present, will not be considered for reinforcement in this case.  The "Based on Code" setting will compare the cylinder length to a minimum length determined in Appendix 1-5 for Internal Pressure and another minimum length determined in Appendix 1-8 for External Pressure to see if the cylinder is long enough to be considered and then pick the right design equations as appropriate.  It is possible that the cylinder will be long enough to be considered in the Internal Pressure case and not long enough to be considered the external pressure case.  The equations that did not consider the cylinder were introduced in the 2013 edition; "Based on Code" will consider even short cylinders for 2010 and 2011 code years.  The option "Yes" will always consider the cylinder regardless of code year or length.  The option "No" will never consider the cylinder, regardless of code year or length.
