AWS WPQ - Process

This section will appear as 2 sections typically. One for Actual Values and one for Range Qualified.

Welding Variables

Backing: Indicate whether backing was used.

AWS classified filler metal: Select this box to indicate that the material used has been classified by AWS.

Filler metal classification: This is an informational field; it is not required and has no standard corresponding range qualified. A value may be entered to restrict a welder to a specific range. Selecting a filler metal from the Filler Metal Browser will automatically complete this field as well as the "Filler metal Specification (SFA) field" and the "Filler metal F number" field.

Filler metal specification (SFA): Enter the filler metal used for the weld test. This field will be automatically completed if a filler metal is selected from the Filler Metal Browser.

Filler Metal Trade Name - If the filler metal is not AWS Classified, then this field will become visible and is essential.

F-number: Enter the F-Number of this filler metal used. This field will be automatically completed if a filler metal is selected from the Filler Metal Browser.

Shielding Gas - Enter the Shielding Gas for this test when applicable for the process being used.

Welding Position (Groove, Fillet, or Plug): The relationship between the weld pool, joint, joint members, and weld heat source during welding. Select the position used when qualifying the weld.

Weld Progression: For vertical welds, select the direction the welding was performed.

Welding Current/polarity: Current may be alternating or direct (AC/DC), while the polarity may be straight (electrode negative) or reverse (electrode positive).

GMAW/Transfer mode: Use the drop down list to select the transfer mode used in the test.

Single/Multiple electrode - Select the option from the drop down list to indicate single or multiple electrodes used.
