Build 2023.12.0.7513
Release status - January 2, 2024
To access the latest DesignCalcs installation file, click DesignCalcs Download.
During installation, if an issue occurs with the Sentinel Run-Time Environment Installer, cancel the install and go to Installing or Updating the Windows Driver for the Hasp License for steps on how to complete a sentinel hasp installation. Once this is completed, install DesignCalcs again.
For a quick demo of the updates listed below, watch the following video:

New Features
DesignCalcs now has two factor authentication and geofencing options. Users will have to create an account with our team and verify their data before they will be able to use this release. For more information: Auth0 Setup. DC-10539
DesignCalcs now supports the additions, deletions and alterations to the material properties from SC II, D 2023 for allowable stress, yield, ultimate stress, modulus of elasticity, mean coefficient of thermal expansion, Poisson’s ratio, density. Changes to the material tables (e.g. UCS-23, UHA-23, UNF-23.1, etc) in Section VIII-1 2023 have been updated. Updates for MDMT curve assignment per UCS-66 in Section VIII-1 2023 have been made. DC-10314, DC-10348, DC-10484, DC-10611
DesignCalcs has updated the three tubesheet types to support the 2023 edition changes. This includes the following. UHX references have been updated to 4.18. The new coefficients: CC, Cmdelta, Cmtheta, Cqdelta, Cqtheta and Zeta C have been added. The shell shape coefficients Lambda S and delta S have been updated to be based on mean diameter instead of inside diameter. The channel shape coefficients Lambda C, and delta C have been updated to be based on mean diameter instead of inside diameter and also to incorporate the new coefficients listed above. The channel coefficient Omega C has been updated to incorporate the new coefficients listed above. The channel membrane and channel bending stresses have been updated based on the new formulations. The calculation for mu* has been moved from step 3 to step 1. For Utube Tubesheets, the calculation for MTS has been moved from step 2 to step 6. For Fixed and Floating Tubesheets, the shown tubesheet bending stress (tau) equation, when Ap and Cp are provided, has been updated to the new simplified form (this has no effect on the result). DC-10698, DC-10769, DC-10780, DC-10791
The Flexible Shell Element (Thick Walled Expansion Joint) calculations have been updated to reflect changes clarified in the 2023 code. Since this was a clarification, all code years for Thick Walled Expansion Joints will be affected. The 2023 code clarified that the straight flange length is 1/2 the length between the outer knuckle tangents for the outer straight and 1/2 the the length between the inner knuckle tangents (if they exist) for the inner straight. This will decrease the likelihood that UG-27 calculations will be required. DC-10671
Tube to Tubesheet weld references have been updated to reflect changes in the 2023 ASME code. The former UW-20 strength based calculations have now been moved to UW-20.3. The former non-mandatory Appendix A calculations have been moved to mandatory UW-20.4. These references have been updated. Former Figure A details have been updated to Figure UW-20.2. The user interface simply shows the 2023 edition options even for older years; but the report will change based on the year of selection (e.g. a 2019 vessel will show Appendix A in the report while a 2023 vessel will show UW-20.4; both will show UW-20.4 in the user interface). DC-10622
DesignCalcs now has Unthreaded Area as an input in the Custom (Appendix 2) flange form for the bolting information. This was done to better support a clarification made in the 2023 edition of Section VIII, Division 1 in Mandatory Appendix 2. Old designs will set the Unthreaded Area value to the Root Area value. The bolt browser now supports this as well and all of the Unthreaded Area values are set to the Root Area values. In the math, the smaller of the Root Area or the Unthreaded area will be used. Since this is a clarification, it affects all code years, not just 2023. DC-10566
There have been general improvements to the JSON export including warnings about unsupported components in the export and disabling the button when licenses are not available. DC-10371
The JSON export now supports internal and external corrosion allowances at the component level and not just at the vessel level. DC-10703
The JSON export now supports Cones. DC-10528
The JSON export now supports Nozzles in Cones. DC-10428
The JSON export now supports Skirts and Base Rings. DC-10440
Issues Resolved
Some corrections were made to the thick walled expansion joint calculations for the outer and inner straights. There were times that some of the UG-27 were showing as failing when they should not have been. DC-10671
An issue was resolved in the JSON export where all elliptical head were assumed to be 2:1. This assumption is no longer made. DC-10462
An issue was corrected on the Lug and Support ring reports for ASCE 7-22 when one of the new two-lettered site classes is specified. When the issue occurred, the site class label would incorrectly show twice without the site class selection being shown at all. The results were not affected by this. DC-10600
An issue was resolved in the lifting lug form for lifting lugs in cylinders. The “Calculate Localized Stresses” box was disabled for all cases. It is now properly enabled for the applicable cases. DC-10656
Misc
The default Hydrotest selection for support calculations is now Max(Ptcalc, Pd) for all new vessel files. DC-10359
The default B16.5 and B16.47 selection is 2020 for 2023 code vessels by reference via Table U-3/Table 1.1. DC-10337
The about screen now shows support for the 2023 Edition of the code. DC-10932
The default code year is now 2023 for new vessels. DC-10932
DesignCalcs has changed the material launch behavior in order to improve the speed of the program launch. You may see a message at material selection that the material is loading. DC-10805
The message in the Lug form, suggesting the user check the repad for stresses per WRC-107 now suggest the user check the repad stresses with NozzlePRO. DC-10406
DesignCalcs now has some business logic coming from the CEI Interop DLL, shared by multiple programs. This requires a new license. DC-10550, CRTN-4584
