AWS D17.3’s implementation into ProWrite allows users the ability to enter, store, and access their Specifications for Friction Stir Welding of aluminium alloys for Aerospace Application Welding documents as well as their welders from within ProWrite Welding Software.

AWS D17.3 is the Specifications for Friction Stir Welding for Aerospace Applications developed by The American Welding Society for construction of aerospace components.

The code covers the general welding requirements for aerospace hardware. Requirements include those for weldment design, qualification of personnel and procedures, fabrication, and inspection. The general requirements divided the friction stir welding (FSW) into three classes A, B, and C. Class A is for critical applications where the weld failure would cause significant danger to personnel or equipment. Class B is for semi-critical applications where weld failure would damage the efficiency of the system. Class C is for welded joints that would not affect the system or endanger the personnel.
