General Information

Description: The label given for the component. It will appear in the component pane, the report dialog, the summary pane, and at the top of the component report. This will default to the component type and component number. For example, the third nozzle for the vessel will start with a description of Nozzle 3.

The following fields only affect the 3D drawing; they do not have an effect on the calculations or the output.

Distance from Reference Line: For nozzles in cylindrical shells, this indicates the distance from the reference line datum measured along the axis of the vessel. For nozzles in nozzles, this is the axial distance of the second nozzle from the first nozzle's intersection with its host. For example, if a cylindrical nozzle is attached to a cylindrical shell and a second nozzle is attached to the cylindrical nozzle, the distance from reference line will be the distance from the axis of the second nozzle to the location where the cylindrical nozzle intersects the shell.

Nozzle Orientation: Determines the position of the nozzle around the component. Vertical vessels in the standard view will show a nozzle at 0° on the front of the vessel, 90° on the right side of the vessel, and so on. Horizontal vessels in the standard view will show a nozzle at 0° on the top of the vessel, 90° on the back of the vessel, and so on. The angle is determined based on where the nozzle axis penetrates the inside surface of the host.

Dimensions (Nominal)

Inside or Outside: This option is only available for some components. The user may choose to input dimensions as the inside dimensions or the outside dimensions where this option is available.

Diameter: The component diameter in the new condition. The selection of Inside or Outside determines whether this is the inside or outside diameter of the component.

Neck Thickness: This value is in the new condition. For the component to pass, this value must be at least the sum of the thickness necessary for pressure and temperature, corrosion allowances, and forming allowances or under-tolerances. If the thickness necessary for pressure and temperature is less than the thickness required by 4.1.2, the nominal thickness pass, this value must be at least the sum of the 4.1.2 thickness and the tolerances, etc. In some cases, under-tolerance is not considered (e.g., for nozzle reinforcement, the under-tolerance of the nozzle neck is ignored).Lpr1thickness necessary for pressure and temperature, corrosion allowances, and forming allowances or under-tolerances. 

Lpr1 (External Projection): The distance that the nozzle axis projects past the outside surface of the vessel wall. 

L41: The weld leg of the nozzle neck perimeter weld on the outside of the vessel.

Corrosion Allowance

Inside: Corrosion allowance on the inside of the component (concave side).

External: Corrosion allowance on the outside of the component (convex side).

Threading Allowance

Inside: Threading allowance on the inside of the component (concave side).

External: Threading allowance on the outside of the component (convex side).

Affects Diameter: Select this box to have the threading allowance affect the diameter.

Manufacturing Allowance

Forming: The material thickness lost to the forming process. To determine the minimum thickness after forming, the uncorroded nominal thickness is reduced by this amount.

Undertolerance: This is the percent of material lost during manufacturing represented as a decimal. If you select a material that has a pipe product form this field will auto fill with 0.125 but that the value can 't then be changed manually.

Minimum Thickness Per Service Type

Custom: This value will set a custom minimum thickness per service type.  This value is only used if "Other" is selected for Service Type.

Service Type:The service type minimum thickness per 4.1.2 in Section VIII, Division 2. This thickness must be met after undertolerances, forming allowances, and corrosion allowances are removed. For low pressure, low loading designs, this may govern the thickness of the design.

Misc.

Nozzle Long Seam JE: The joint efficiency of the component, which is determined from Table 4.2.4 for welded joints and may also represent ligament efficiency per 4.10.2. When both ligaments and welded joints exist, the lowest efficiency is used. This efficiency is for the long seam in the nozzle neck and does not represent the joint efficiency for the joint attaching the nozzle to its host or for any joints in the host that the nozzle penetrates.

Inspection Opening: If the nozzle is a manway or access opening, certain calculations will not be required to be calculated. This will give relief from the 4.5.4 nozzle neck thickness calculations.

Nozzle Intersects Host Long Seam: When this box is checked it will use the host long seam joint efficiency in the calculations when necessary.

Custom Lr: When the Use box is selected, the value entered will be used to limit the parallel limit of reinforcement determined per 4.5. Using this field may result in reducing the available area of reinforcement values and make meeting the 4.5 reinforcement requirements more difficult. For example, nozzles in close proximity may not have overlapping limits of reinforcement, so the code would require a reduction in this value and would thereby increase the difficulty of meeting 4.5 requirements.

Weld Detail

Detail Requirements: Because the wording in the code allows multiple interpretations, this allows the user to choose whether the weld detail requirements per 4.1.2 should be met in the corroded condition, the new condition, or both.

Materials: Nozzle Neck

Display Options:The options checked here will populate the material description fields in the applicable screen when a material is picked; this same description will appear in the nozzle report. They will populate in the order selected and may be truncated on the end based on size of the combined text.

Loading Conditions

Load Case Description: The label given for the load case. It will appear in the component pane and in the component report. This will default to the component type and Conditions. For example, the third nozzle for the vessel will start with a description of Nozzle 3 - Conditions.

Pressure: The internal design pressure (pressure on the concave side). This value is gauge pressure. 

Static Head: The internal pressure (pressure on the concave side) resulting from the static head of the fluid. The user must determine this value and input it accordingly. It will be added to the Pressure input and the sum will be used in the internal pressure calculations for the component. 

Temperature: The maximum mean metal design temperature for the internal pressure case as per the loading condition.

Apply Corrosion: Selecting this box will change the loading condition to perform all the calculations excluding the weld detail and service type thickness calculations in either the corroded or new condition. 

S: The host material allowable stress at the temperature listed for the loading condition. When a 3.0 :1 safety factor is specified in the vessel screen, this value comes from Section II, Part D (Table 2A for Ferrous Materials, Table 2B for Non-Ferrous Materials, and Table 3 for Bolting). When a 2.4 :1 safety factor is specified in the vessel screen, this value comes from Section II, Part D (Table 5A for Ferrous Materials, Table 5B for Non-Ferrous Materials, and Table 3 for Bolting). If a 4:1 safety factor is specified, this value is calculated based on the ultimate strength from Table U in Section II, Part D; furthermore, the value is limited to the values listed in the allowable stress tables for yield and creep governed cases. In cases where the temperature listed for the internal pressure condition exceeds the highest temperature entry for this material’s stress line, the value will be zero. 

Sn: The nozzle material allowable stress at the temperature listed for the loading condition. When a 3.0 :1 safety factor is specified in the vessel screen, this value comes from Section II, Part D (Table 2A for Ferrous Materials, Table 2B for Non-Ferrous Materials, and Table 3 for Bolting). When a 2.4 :1 safety factor is specified in the vessel screen, this value comes from Section II, Part D (Table 5A for Ferrous Materials, Table 5B for Non-Ferrous Materials, and Table 3 for Bolting). If a 4:1 safety factor is specified, this value is calculated based on the ultimate strength from Table U in Section II, Part D; furthermore, the value is limited to the values listed in the allowable stress tables for yield and creep governed cases.
